What is an accessible portable toilet?
In the UK, "accessible" portable toilets sit on a spectrum. There are three categories worth understanding before you hire:
1. Standard portable toilet
The classic single-cubicle unit you see on construction sites and at smaller events. Compact, no special features — not suitable for wheelchair users or guests with mobility needs.
2. Accessible (disabled-friendly) portable toilet
A larger unit specifically designed for wheelchair access. It has a turning circle, ramp or level access, grab rails, lower-mounted fittings and wider doors. Most luxury UK suppliers offer one as a standalone unit or as part of a trailer configuration. This is what most people mean when they ask for a "disabled toilet hire".
3. Changing Places
A separate, higher-spec category designed for people with profound and multiple disabilities. Includes an adult-size changing bench, ceiling hoist, and peninsula toilet. Common as fixed installations in public buildings; rare in portable form. Best to ask suppliers directly if your event needs one.
